This season is an exciting showcase of LSO talent, with six of our members stepping into the spotlight as soloists. On 10 November, LSO Leader Andrej Power will perform Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No 2 under the baton of Klaus Mäkelä. Our Christmas concert will feature Principal Clarinet Sérgio Pires in Bernstein’s jazzy Prelude, Fugue and Riffs. Principal Flute Gareth Davies will captivate audiences with Debussy’s beautiful Syrinx for solo flute. Cello lovers are in for a treat too, as our Principal Cellos take center stage: David Cohen performs Elgar’s ruminative Cello Concerto, and in the New Year, Rebecca Gilliver shines in Walton’s restless and energetic masterpiece. Our Leader, Benjamin Gilmore, will also perform as a soloist as part of our Boulez centenary celebration in January 2025.
